Elodie Cazes

Originally from France, Elodie Cazes moved with her family to New Zealand, where she spent 15 years of her childhood and adolescence. At the age of 12, she was involved in a life-changing accident when she dove head-first into a shallow pond, sustaining fractures to her cervical vertebrae that left her limbs paralysed.

During her recovery in hospital, Elodie was introduced to mouth painting as part of a therapy program. Having always loved drawing as a child, she embraced this creative outlet, which soon became both a passion and a means of expression. She received encouragement and inspiration from several New Zealand artists, including Kevin Griffiths and Irene Bernie, members of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA).

After many years in New Zealand, Elodie and her family returned to France. More recently, she has settled in Murwillumbah, Australia.

Her artwork often depicts landscapes of Australia and New Zealand, as well as animal and floral subjects that reflect her connection to these places. Working primarily in acrylics, Elodie has made remarkable progress in a short time, exhibiting her paintings widely.

She became a student member of the VDMFK in 1997, was granted Associate Membership in 2009, and achieved Full Membership in 2011.
