Brenton Nicholas Swartz was born in Cape Town in 1978 and became a tetraplegic after a gunshot accident, paralysed from the neck down. He qualified as an architectural draughtsman before a friend encouraged him to try painting in 2001 — his aim, in his own words, to lead an independent, happy life. This card carries one of his paintings.
